MatchBuilt is an executive search firm partnering with a leading home builder with operations in Nashville, TN, seeking a Vice President of Operations to help lead the division’s construction, purchasing, and customer care execution in alignment with the organization’s growth strategy.

A strong background in residential operations and construction, particularly in a fast-paced, high-volume homebuilding environment, is required for this role, and only candidates with relevant homebuilding experience will be considered.

In this role, the ideal candidate will provide leadership across construction field operations, purchasing, estimating, and customer service. This person will hire, train, manage, and motivate direct reports while helping ensure the division operates with consistency, accountability, and strong cross-functional communication.

Vice President of Operations Responsibilities

  • Lead division-wide construction and operational execution with a strong focus on safety, quality, schedule performance, customer experience, and team accountability.
  • Provide leadership across vertical construction and other assigned operational functions, including support for purchasing, estimating, customer service, and related field operations.
  • Shape a work environment that supports collaboration, accountability, communication, and consistent leadership standards across departments.
  • Identify operational risks early and implement solutions before they affect schedules, quality, customer satisfaction, trade performance, or financial results.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, including build times, quality standards, energy-efficiency results, warranty trends, customer feedback, and operational performance metrics.
  • Improve operating procedures, communication, and workflow across assigned departments to support consistency, scalability, and predictable execution.
  • Recruit, coach, develop, and manage leaders and team members throughout the division.
  • Maintain compliance with internal policies, local building requirements, safety standards, and applicable municipal regulations.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and hold teams accountable for construction quality, schedule discipline, cost control, customer satisfaction, and overall operational results.
  • Evaluate staffing levels, reporting structures, and departmental processes to ensure the division is positioned for current needs and future growth.
  • Partner with the Division President on annual planning, operating priorities, production goals, departmental budgets, and pricing-related decisions.
  • Collaborate with purchasing and estimating teams to support accurate scopes of work, trade alignment, cost management, and margin protection.
  • Support customer service leadership by helping address recurring construction issues, warranty trends, field communication gaps, and homeowner experience concerns.
  • Manage departmental budgets and make decisions that support profitability, cost control, operational efficiency, and long-term division performance.
  • Strengthen the division’s trade base by developing dependable subcontractor relationships, addressing performance concerns, and ensuring trade capacity supports production goals.
  • Spend consistent time in the field reviewing community conditions, construction quality, safety performance, trade execution, and customer-facing issues.

Vice President of Operations Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field preferred.
  • 5–10 years of production homebuilding experience with progressively senior construction or operations leadership responsibility.
  • Strong residential construction background with the ability to lead through field operations while partnering effectively with purchasing, estimating, customer service, and other division departments.
  • Experience overseeing multiple departments, developing leaders, and maintaining accountability for operational results in a production homebuilding environment.
  • Strong knowledge of construction plans, site plans, scopes of work, specifications, scheduling, quality control, trade management, and cost management.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial information, solve complex problems, and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Proven ability to improve processes, strengthen communication, and create alignment between field teams, office-based departments, trade partners, and senior leadership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present technical, financial, and operational information clearly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management systems, with BuildPro experience highly preferred.
  • Formal OSHA training or certification preferred.
