LBM / Building Materials Career Opportunity

We are teaming with a leading LBM manufacturer in search of a Panel Buyer to support their growing western region.  The Regional Panel Buyer assists and supports the Director of Purchasing for Commodities and the Regional VP Operations by coordinating large panel contract negotiations with key lumber mills.

The Structural Panel buyer will organize and conduct regional spot and block buys, work with the divisions to protect long term customer contracts, and communicate the status of the fast-paced panel commodity market to key stakeholders.

Essential Structural Panel Buyer Job Duties

  • Manages the annual OSB/Panel contract RFP process for its region; monitors signed OSB/Panel agreements in conjunction with other regions to make sure goals are being met.
  • Procures commodity panels products for the regional division.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with strategic panel partners and key building products executives.
  • Develops new sources of supply by educating vendors on the size, scope and buying power of US LBM.
  • Conducts joint supplier/division business plan meetings to facilitate the achievement of objectives.
  • Provides guidance for division presidents and sales managers on the direction of the panel market.
  • Communicates any important market information out to its region in a timely fashion.
  • Communicates new product opportunities to the divisions.
  • Develops and negotiates new discount, rebate and VMI programs for US LBM and divisions.
  • Mitigates issues between suppliers and divisions.
  • Travels when needed to suppliers or divisions.
  • Coordination of block buys/spot buys.
  • Working with divisions on covering forward pricing jobs.

Requirements for the Structural Panel Buyer

  • Required experience —5 years of purchasing, inventory control or supply chain experience, prefer extensive knowledge of panel market and commodity trading
  • Special skills required— Use of calculators and computers, understanding of stocking, inventory control and warehousing principles, excellent communication and negotiating skills, and understanding contracts and terms of purchase.
  • Physical demands include sitting for extended periods of time, standing and walking, bending or stooping, lifting up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Travel up to 25%
