We are seeking an experienced Director of Finance to join our client’s dynamic team in Myrtle Beach, SC. This role is ideal for finance professionals with a proven track record in the residential construction industry eager to lead financial strategy in a high-growth, fast-paced environment.
As the Director of Finance, you will be responsible for partnering with the Division President and key operational leaders to drive and optimize the annual business plan. You will oversee critical operational areas such as sales, land acquisition, development, construction, customer service, purchasing, and closings. Additionally, you’ll mitigate financial risk, ensure compliance with SOX controls and company policy, and manage day-to-day financial operations across the division.
Job Highlights:

- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the preparation of detailed budgets and monthly forecasts, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow projections.

Director of Finance Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the division’s senior leadership team, providing strategic financial counsel to homebuilding leaders to drive improved business outcomes.
- Lead financial analysis, strategic planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes to support informed decision-making and business growth.
- Collaborate with internal finance teams and senior executives, while maintaining strong relationships with external stakeholders and decision-makers.
- Play an active role in Land Acquisition Review (LAR) submissions, ensuring accurate financial proforma analysis, feasibility assessments, and overall data integrity for corporate approvals.
- Analyze division costs and budgets, identifying opportunities to enhance operational efficiencies and cost-saving measures.
- Partner with senior leadership to develop and refine the division’s pricing strategy, ensuring alignment with financial goals and market conditions.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead the FP&A team, assigning responsibilities based on individual strengths and promoting professional growth through performance evaluations and development opportunities.
- Oversee financial risk management for the division, implementing strategies to minimize exposure and ensure compliance.
- Act as the primary liaison between the division and internal/external audit teams, ensuring smooth communication and audit readiness.
- Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Director of Finance Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics; advanced degree or CPA/CFA preferred.
- 5-10 years of progressive finance or accounting experience, with a strong preference for leadership roles in finance within the residential construction industry.
- Proficiency with financial systems such as Hyperion, Essbase, and JD Edwards is highly desirable, along with advanced financial modeling and analytical skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with proven ability to deliver impactful presentations, influence stakeholders, and resolve complex issues positively.
- Strong business acumen, with comprehensive knowledge of key operational areas such as land acquisition, sales, construction, and purchasing.
- Demonstrated success in a collaborative team environment, mentoring junior staff, and working effectively across all levels of management.
- Executive presence with the ability to confidently interact and present to senior leadership and corporate executives.
- Proven leadership and people management skills, with a track record of building, developing, and leading high-performing teams.
