Residential Construction / Home Builder Career Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading public home builder with operations in central Florida, seeking a Vice President of Construction to effectively manage and be directly responsible for homebuilding and customer service operations.  A strong construction background, particularly in a fast-paced, high-volume homebuilder setting, is necessary for this role, and only candidates with relevant homebuilding experience will be considered.

NOTE: We’re seeking experienced candidates who have led high-volume construction teams for a top 30 home builder. Immediate consideration is given to those who meet this requirement.

In this role, the ideal candidate will provide field leadership for all construction activities and hire, train, manage, and motivate direct reports on the construction team. Local and non-local candidates will be considered.  This opportunity will enable you to collaborate with some of the most exceptional leaders in the homebuilding industry, both at the divisional and corporate levels. Vice President of Construction Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all construction roles are filled with highly skilled professionals proficient in technical expertise, cost management, administrative tasks, and customer service.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training programs for field management teams to enhance performance and compliance.
  • Oversee and manage construction budgets for each home, ensuring accuracy and alignment with financial goals.
  • Promptly report any budget variances, including shortages or overages, to the purchasing team for resolution.
  • Promote a collaborative team culture among Superintendents, Sales, and Marketing to facilitate clear communication, coordinated efforts, and effective problem-solving.
  • Recruit, evaluate, and manage subcontractors to ensure consistent adherence to quality standards and strict scheduling deadlines.
  • Provide strategic support for land acquisition and development initiatives as required.
  • Enforce strict compliance with the company’s safety program, ensuring all construction personnel are trained and accountable.
  • Ensure all construction staff are well-versed in the warranty program and capable of addressing related inquiries.
  • Monitor and enforce adherence to project schedules for each home, addressing delays proactively.
  • Drive the success of the quality control process through rigorous oversight and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain clean, safe, and organized job sites at all times to uphold company standards and community expectations.
  • Foster a sense of ownership and accountability at the community level across all construction projects.

Vice President of Construction Requirements:

  • A bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, business, or a related field is required.
  • 5–8 years of experience in the homebuilding industry, with a focus on residential construction.
  • Minimum of 5 years in progressively senior roles with a production homebuilder, demonstrating leadership and operational expertise.
  • Proficiency in construction management software, with prior experience using BuildPro highly preferred.
  • Formal OSHA training and certification strongly preferred to ensure safety compliance.
  • Exceptional skills in relationship-building, self-organization, strategic planning, and problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and produce clear, concise written reports.
  • Proven ability to communicate complex ideas, concepts, and technical strategies effectively to individuals and groups.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on fostering collaboration and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrated work ethic, with a collaborative mindset and commitment to team success.
