We are teaming with a leading home builder in Hunstville, AL, searching for an experienced Corporate Controller. We are seeking candidates with significant accounting experience either in the construction sector or with a leading accounting firm. Reporting to the Corporate VP of Finance, the right candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s historical reporting, anticipatory budgeting, and financial projections. The controller will act as the conscience for the organization, which involves fiduciary responsibilities, business process improvement, and challenging the entire management team’s thinking and decisions. The right candidate will also lead senior management in compliance with company policies and act as the liaison between the division and the corporate office related to accounting and finance issues.

Corporate Controller Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and assists in executing the company’s annual and revised home building and land budget forecasts
  • Focuses on division investment and daily operations to maximize results related to ROI, margin, and overhead expenses
  • Assists land team in the financial analysis of land deals
  • Supports purchasing team in monitoring of direct construction costs and job cost variances
  • Monitors financial performance
  • Reviews and analyzes monthly financial statements
  • Monitors balance sheet items to include land & homebuilding WIP, escrows, and accruals
  • Prepares land job costs budgets by section and Common budgets
  • Monitors/reviews land A/P overages, change orders, land budgets and cost to complete reserves
  • Reviews land contracts for FIN 46 applications
  • Monitors division procedures and internal controls
  • Supports IT with Information Systems implementations: JDE, HMS, etc
  • Assists the Region President and corporate teams with special projects

Qualifications for Corporate Controller 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Accounting
  • Minimum of 10 years experience combined with 5 to 7 years of industry experience. CPA/Public Accounting preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting and finance practices and job costing, budgeting, and strategic
    planning
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel program
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
  • Confident working closely with upper management and corporate executives
