Board Director Opportunity in Texas

Commercial Landscaping Board Opportunity

MatchBuilt is an executive search firm partnering with a private equity-backed commercial landscaping company in Texas to identify a Board Director who can help guide the company’s strategic, operational, and commercial growth.

This opportunity requires a senior homebuilding executive with meaningful Texas market experience, prior P&L or business management responsibility, strong operational judgment, and established relationships across the homebuilding and builder-vendor communities. Candidates without relevant homebuilding leadership experience in Texas will not be considered.

The ideal candidate will be a current or former Division President, Regional President, Area President, General Manager, senior operations executive, or comparable homebuilding leader who understands how builders evaluate vendors, award business, manage performance, and expand relationships across multiple markets.

This is a part-time board role rather than a full-time operating position. The selected director will work closely with the company’s founder and leadership team, as well as its private equity sponsor, to provide practical guidance, introduce new ideas, strengthen customer relationships, and help identify opportunities for growth.

The expected time commitment will depend on the candidate and the needs of the business, generally ranging from approximately five hours per month to five hours per week. Compensation will include an equity component.

Board Director Objectives

  • Provide practical strategic and operational guidance to the founder, executive leadership team, and board.
  • Help the company strengthen and expand relationships with homebuilder customers throughout Texas.
  • Advise leadership on how large homebuilders evaluate, select, manage, and grow relationships with landscaping and construction service providers.
  • Identify opportunities to increase the company’s share of business with existing homebuilder customers.
  • Recommend adjacent services that can be introduced to current customers based on builder needs, market demand, and operational capabilities.
  • Support expansion into additional Texas markets and other geographies where existing customer relationships may create growth opportunities.
  • Help evaluate opportunities with HOAs, multifamily developers, retailers, property managers, and other commercial customer groups.
  • Provide informed opinions regarding operations, customer service, organizational priorities, financial performance, and long-term value creation.
  • Use industry knowledge and professional relationships to help generate business development ideas and relevant introductions.
  • Challenge assumptions, offer decisive guidance, and remain actively engaged in the business’s performance and direction.
  • Support leadership in balancing growth, customer retention, operational execution, and profitability.
  • Participate in board meetings and periodic working sessions with the company’s leadership and investment partners.

Board Director Qualifications

  • Current or previous senior leadership experience with a production homebuilder is required.
  • Significant professional experience in Texas and a strong understanding of the state’s major homebuilding markets are required.
  • Prior responsibility for a division, region, business unit, or major operating function with direct P&L or business performance accountability is required.
  • Experience as a Division President, Regional President, Area President, General Manager, Vice President of Operations, or comparable homebuilding executive is strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of builder-vendor relationships, purchasing decisions, operational expectations, service levels, and performance management.
  • Strong operational judgment with the ability to translate executive experience into practical recommendations and actionable ideas.
  • Demonstrated business development ability, including experience growing customer relationships, entering new markets, or expanding service offerings.
  • Established relationships within the Texas homebuilding, construction services, landscaping, development, or related vendor communities.
  • Ability to work effectively with a founder-led business while also collaborating with private equity professionals and other board members.
  • Willingness to take an active role, ask direct questions, offer clear opinions, and become involved beyond scheduled board meetings when needed.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to evaluate growth opportunities, operating performance, customer concentration, margins, and organizational priorities.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, personal drive, and a strong interest in helping create long-term enterprise value.
  • Current, former, or recently retired executives will be considered, provided the candidate can serve without creating a conflict of interest.
