We are seeking an Architectural Designer for a leading homebuilder in the Chicago metro area.
This is a great opportunity for an experienced designer with a leading national or regional homebuilder or architectural firm. We are seeking candidates with production homebuilding design and management experience.Â
The Architectural Designer will work hand-in-hand with both the Design Project Manager and Construction Preparation Coordinator to ensure the client’s vision is delivered both virtually and in the field. They undertake a wide variety of daily project management, design, and administrative tasks as they guide clients through the creation of their dream home. An excellent Architectural Designer is an organized and competent professional that must also possess project management skills; have excellent graphic, written and verbal communication skills; and possess a strong desire to excel and advance in a fast-paced, challenging and client-focused environment. The primary focus will be in single-family residential design but will have opportunities to develop multi-family residential, commercial, and mixed-use designs.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ARCHITECTURAL SENIOR DESIGNER:
- Creation of conceptual designs for both client and speculative projects
- Visit proposed client sites and determine the initial scope of services.
- Prepare documentation for Schematic Design and Design Development
- Exercise creative judgment and design skills in preparing design ideas
- Execute plans in a timely manner
- Committed to key standards including excellence in design, quality control, time management, and sustainability
- Ability to prepare accurate, coordinated and complete Construction ready documentation including plans, details, sections, elevations, and schedules
- Lead and prepare revisions and technical alternatives
- Perform area calculations and material takeoffs
- Assist with the site and zoning analysis
QUALIFICATIONS OF ARCHITECTURAL SENIOR DESIGNER:
- Ideally an Architectural Design Degree – with a residential focus
- 2+ years’ experience in residential projects preferred
- Strong understanding of Architectural principles and theory associated with project design and construction materials, methods, and design programs
- Demonstrated strength in effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and demonstrate a professional work ethic
- Culture fit with the existing team
- Experience in residential architectural drafting
- Experience and proficiency with AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software
- Ability to interpret local building codes and apply them to design development
- Ability to make immediate decisions with positive outcomes based on limited information
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized with the ability to prioritize and multi-task
- Ability to work in a salaried position and meet clients outside of regular business hours if necessary
